Fellow Podcaster Spotlight: Joann Filomena
Joann Filomena has been a Sistah Speak family member for many years. She is not only a listener, but also a contributor. She has guest-hosted on several of our podcasts, is very active in the Sistah Speak Nation Facebook group and Twitter, and is now an accomplished podcaster.
Joann’s life was forever changed after the sudden death of her husband, Jim. As she faced life without her husband, she began pursuing her dream of becoming a certified life and weight coach. She succeeded and began accepting clients within the next year. Joann also created a Weight Loss Mastermind class and community and strives to help people learn to listen to their bodies and understand the emotional reasons they overeat.
Earlier this year, Joann became a podcaster of not one but two podcasts. She started the Weight Coach podcast and speaks of her own experiences with weight loss and provides amazing motivational tips and achievable goals. The podcast gives you a glimpse of how knowledgeable, warm, and encouraging her weight coaching sessions must be.
Joann also started a personal podcast called the Widow Cast. It is a truly insightful and inspiring podcast. She gives you a look into the emotions and thoughts of widowhood and guides widows through navigating their new lives. Joann states herself that one does not need to be a widow to get something from her podcast. The Widow Cast will bring insight to people who are grieving or know someone who is grieving.
Telling her experiences on the Widow Cast and hearing from people she has helped, led Joann into her latest project. WIDOWED is her book coming to Amazon on October 13th. It is as deeply moving as her podcast and speaks directly to the widow in a way that only another widow can. WIDOWED will be available for a free download of the Kindle edition for three days after its release. Joann is encouraging everyone to download the free edition to enable distribution to as many people as possible. The paperback version will be released in the Spring of 2017.
In her spare time between coaching, podcasting, and writing, Joann enjoys her beautiful home with amazing flowers and spending time with her daughter, her family and friends.
Joann is a true inspiration and brings great insight into podcasting. Her love for The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, and Big Brother among other shows is infectious. Don’t even get her started on Australian shows. She always has a positive attitude and, it seems, a smile on her face.
We celebrate her and are so proud to call her a family member, a friend and a fellow podcaster.
